Discussion Questions for Titus, Chapter 3
- Paul tells Titus in Titus 3:1 to remind those he teaches to be submissive to rulers and authorities. Would it ever be correct to disobey authorities? If so, what are examples, and what is the scriptural basis?
- Paul continues teaching Titus to speak evil of no one. How do you admonish someone's behaviors without speaking evil of them? Should our speech about evil be affected by how someone will receive it? Why or why not?
- Titus 4:3-7 teaches that we should be kind and merciful to others because, at one point in our lives, we were disobedient until Jesus saved us with grace and mercy. How are you gracious and merciful in your actions toward others? How does the lack of grace and mercy toward others affect a believer's life?
- Titus 4:5 reads that we are not saved by our acts of righteousness but by Christ's mercy. What would you tell a non-believer they must do before they can become a believer in Christ and receive salvation?
- Paul tells Titus in Titus 3:6 that the Holy Spirit is poured out on the believer through Jesus Christ. How is the Holy Spirit seen in a believer's life after it is poured out on them?
- Paul tells Titus to instruct believers in God to devote themselves to good works in Titus 3:8. What are some good works you are doing in your life currently? Why are you doing them?
- Paul tells Titus to avoid those who create dissension. What should be a believer's involvement with media, technology, or groups that stir up dissension? How should believers respond to contentious topics?
- According to Titus 3:9-11, how should the church treat a divisive member? If the church has nothing to do with someone, how is this compatible with the grace and mercy of God mentioned at the beginning of Titus 3?
- Titus 3:14 says, "And let our people learn to devote themselves to good works, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not be unfruitful." What should be our role in helping those in need? What are pursuits or activities that could lead to unfruitful and unproductive living?
- In Titus 3:13, Paul tells Titus to help Zenas and Apollos as they travel. In our times, who travels for the purpose of spreading the Good News? How can we support them and ensure that they have everything they need?
