  1. What does it mean that God "foreknew" (HCSB) His people? How does that impact your understanding of God's sovereign knowledge of all things, even future events?
  2. What is the historical context of "Baal" (HCSB)? What does idolatry have to do with righteousness and faith in God? What idols in your life keep you from fully being devoted to God?
  3. In chapter 10, Paul says that God hardened Pharaoh's heart. Why would He also harden the hearts of His own people? What does that say about His divine will and choices?
  4. What role do the "Gentiles" (HCSB) play in the salvation of God's people? Why do you think God uses foreigners to make Israel "jealous" (HCSB) and lead them to salvation? In what ways has God used something to bring you back to Him?
