Discussion Questions for Revelation, Chapter 8
- Read Zephaniah 1:7. Why do you think Heaven was silent after the opening of the scroll, even with the multitudes from the previous chapter in Heaven?
- According to Numbers 10, what are trumpets supposed to be used for? When are some times that trumpets were used in the Old Testament? How might those connect to these trumpet blasts?
- Who are the saints? Why? What other Scriptures can you use to back up your claim?
- Read Leviticus 16:11-14. This almost matches what the angel does in verses 3-5, but what is different? Why does the angel do this? What does it signify?
- The upcoming judgments should remind the reader of the Exodus story. What connections can you make? Who was God judging back then? Who is He judging here?
- How would the world's ecology and food supply be affected by the first trumpet? What plagues does this mirror in Exodus?
- The second and third trumpets affect the entire water system of the Earth. What is the significance of the seas being turned into blood and the rivers being turned into bitter water?
- The fourth trumpet blast affects the whole world. Every plant, insect, animal, and person feels the effects of this judgment. Yet, an eagle comes forth to warn the people that the worst is yet to come. After all this destruction, what else could be worse? What is their crime?
- God is bringing destruction on the Earth, the seas, the rivers, and eventually on the heavens. Why? What is His purpose in all this destruction?
- Who are the people who "dwell on the earth" (verse 13, ESV)? Read Philippians 3:18-21. Where is your citizenship found? How do you know?
