Discussion Questions for Revelation, Chapter 7

  1. How does the seal given in this chapter contrast the mark of the beast found in 13:16–17? Do you think this is a literal seal/mark that anyone can see or an inward seal/mark that only the Lord knows? Why?
  2. Each tribe had 12,000 people that received the seal. Why is this significant? What is this list reminiscent of?
  3. There is a glaring omission from the 12 tribes of Israel. Who is it? Why was this tribe omitted?
  4. John had heard the number of the sealed, but when he looked, what did he see? What do you think this is supposed to point towards? What are some differences in these groups? What is significant about these differences?
  5. Read Genesis 12:1-3, Matthew 28:18-20, and Acts 1:8. How is Revelation 7 a fulfillment of these passages? What other passages does Revelation 7 fulfill?
  6. This multitude will be from every nation, tribe, people, and language, but not every people group knows the Lord today. How can you do your part to further the mission of God to bring His redemption to all people?
  7. The palm branches in the hands of the redeemed should immediately remind us of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem before his crucifixion. What is different this time? What is significant about these differences?
  8. God's judgement seems to pause for a time in between the 6th and 7th seals. Why do you think the Lord wanted to seal these people at this time rather than before or after all the seals were broken?
  9. Out of all the promises made in verses 15–17, which one do you look forward to the most? Why?
  10. What are some ways you can use Revelation 7 to give hope to those that are weighed down by the worries of today? How would this have given hope to the people of John's time?
