Discussion Questions for Psalms, Chapter 33

1. Psalm 33:1, "Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright." (ESV) What do you think the Psalmist means by "befits"? What does it mean to be "upright"? How is praise a marker for the upright?
2. Psalm 33:3, "Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts." (ESV) Why do you think this Psalm calls upon a new song? What heart posture would this bring about to the one worshiping?
3. Psalm 33:5, "He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD." (ESV) How do you see the Lord displaying His heart for righteousness and justice in your life? Knowing this is God’s heart, how can we join in reflecting His heart with our actions today?

7. Psalm 33:12, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!" (ESV) How can you shape this verse into a prayer for your nation? How can it inspire specific prayer requests for your community?
8. What is the Psalmist wanting us to understand about The Lord in verses 13-15? What do these verses teach us about God’s active involvement in the creation of people? How does it speak to God's majesty?
9. Psalm 33:17, "The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue." (ESV) Why are we prone to putting our hope in worldly things?
