  1. What characteristics of God are listed in verses 1-2? What do each of them mean? Which one brings the greatest encouragement to you, and why?
  2. In many places throughout the Bible, God fights for his people. In verse 1 of this psalm, though, David asks God to train and prepare him for the battle. What is the difference between the two, and why is the distinction important?
  3. Consider the humility of verses 3 and 4. When David says these things, do you think he is implying man has no value in the eyes of God? Why or why not?
  4. When you come before God in prayer, do you do so with humility? What does this look like? If you do not, what might it look like to start?
  5. How is the sovereignty of God displayed throughout this passage? Considering his power, is it good to have a healthy fear of the Lord? Why or why not?
  6. How does David praise God for his deeds in this passage? Do these methods of praise still exist today? In what ways have modern-day believers been faithful to praise God? In what ways might they have failed?
  7. What request of David is repeated in this psalm? Do you believe this means the more you request something, the more likely God is to listen and to answer? Why or why not?
  8. Consider the prayer of blessing in verses 12-14. Should we follow David's example to pray that God blesses our lives and the lives of those around us? Why or why not? Why do you think people hesitate today to do so?
  9. What does it mean to be "blessed" by God? Is a blessing always material/tangible? Why or why not?
  10. Consider how David's prayer in this psalm alternates between praise, supplication, and thanksgiving. Is this an example that believers should seek to follow in their own lives? If so, how might you model your prayers in this way?
