  1. What can we learn from David’s perseverance in the midst of being pursued by violent men?
  2. How does David navigate being honest before The Lord while also trusting in His will and authority?
  3. How do verses 4-5 shed light on David’s circumstances? How can understanding his circumstances impact the way we understand his prayers and praises?
  4. Do you have any strife in your life that you are battling? How can this Psalm shape the way you address that strife?
  5. Psalm 140:6, “I say to the LORD, You are my God; give ear to the voice of my pleas for mercy, O LORD!” (ESV) How does declaring God’s Lordship prepare our hearts to cry out to Him?

Psalm 140:7, “O LORD, my Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle.” (ESV) We often see God referenced and then personally claimed in the opening of many verses in the Psalms. In this case it is “O LORD, my Lord”. Why do you think this is the case? What kind of significance could this have had in the culture or language of that day?

Psalm 140:12, “I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will execute justice for the needy.” (ESV) Even in his affliction, David is still reminding himself of the truth about God’s heart. Have you ever experienced a time like this? How can we remind ourselves of God’s truth in the midst of the waiting?
