Discussion Questions for Proverbs, Chapter 22

  1. How is verse 1 connected to the Lord's name, Yahweh? Do you carry the name of the Lord? How do you know?
  2. What other similarities do the rich and poor share in addition to verse 2? How will you commit to caring for the poor this week?
  3. Is verse 4 true? How many poor, suffering Christians are there in the world? How do we reconcile this with verse 4?
  4. In what ways will you set your children on the path to righteousness this week? Whose fault is it ultimately if they turn from that path and toward destruction? Why? Remember to make your case using Scripture.
  5. So much of our lives is governed by borrowing money: credit cards, mortgages, car loans, etc. Is this the same as what the Bible describes in verse 7? How can you seek financial independence, and what steps will you take this week? How will you include the Lord in those plans?
  6. In what ways do you see people oppressing poor individuals to enrich themselves? How can you ensure that you stay away from this in your job?
  7. What does the word "lips" imply in verse 18? How will you keep the word of God on your lips this week?
  8. Verses 24 and 25 give us instruction on how to deal with angry people in our lives. This is good, but shouldn't we be willing to minister to these kinds of people? How can we keep angry people away while also ministering to and sharing the Gospel with them?
  9. What is the significance of moving a boundary marker? Who is this a sin against? What would be a modern version of this sin?
  10. Reflect on the fool and the wise in this chapter. In what ways do you need to change your life to be more like the wise man?
