  1. Read verse 3. When was a time in your life where your own foolishness led you astray? Did you blame God in that moment? How can we recognize the difference between the consequences of our own choices and God's testing of our lives?
  2. How can we know if our friends are true during times of wealth in our lives? What are some characteristics of real friendships?
  3. In verse 8, it talks about the one who gets wisdom loving their own soul. How does seeking wisdom contribute to personal well-being and growth?
  4. Why do you think verses 5 and 9 are almost identical? What is the purpose of including this idea multiple times?
  5. Read Amos 1:1-2. How does this connect to Proverbs 19:12? How does the imagery of the Lord roaring in Amos show his displeasure for the people of Israel? What other connections can you make to the book of Amos?
  6. How can you prevent broken relationships in your family? Men, how can you love your wife in a way that will prevent her from nagging? Women, how can you love your husband in a way that will encourage him rather than bring him down?
  7. How have you been rewarded by being generous? Does the Bible say anywhere that you will be rewarded monetarily if you are generous? What might your reward look like?
  8. What is the difference between learning a lesson and gaining wisdom (verse 25, CSB)? Is this an argument for not spanking your children? If you are in favor of spanking, why? If you are not in favor of spanking, what other forms of discipline do you use/plan to use? Are they effective?
  9. In verse 23, it mentions the fear of the Lord leading to life. What does it mean to fear God? How can it bring life? How has this happened in your life?
  10. Reflect on the fool and the the wise in this chapter. In what ways do you need to change your life to be more like the wise man?
