Discussion Questions for Isaiah, Chapter 62
- What is the significance of not keeping quiet or silent in verse 1? What is Isaiah's concern for the nation of Israel here? For whose sake is the declaration necessary (vs. 2)?
- Why would Israel, as a nation, be considered "forsaken" and "desolate"? What unites the people back to their association with the LORD?
- Isaiah describes that Israel will be "a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God" (NASB1995) in verse 3. How would this be understood in the original context of the nation of Israel? How might you apply God's perspective here regarding the people of Israel to you? Could one ever consider themselves too highly in the eyes of God? Why or why not?
- What is the significance of the marital language of verses 4-5? Why does the author use several metaphors, all referring to marriage, to describe God's relationship with His people?
- How does your relationship with God reflect that of a marriage relationship? In what ways is a marriage relationship not like your relationship with God? How does this help you understand your commitment to God?
- In verses 6-7, the appointed watchmen are to never keep silent in reminding the LORD. What are they reminding the LORD of? Is it the LORD who really needs reminding, or is it the people? What is the significance of Isaiah's instruction to the watchman here?
- In verse 8 it says, “The LORD has sworn by His right hand and by His strong arm…” (NASB 1995). What does this mean? What do we know of the “strength” of God's promises? Why, perhaps, does the author use this language to describe God's promises?

- What is the significance of God's people being called “holy” in verse 12? Would it be appropriate to call yourself “holy” as part of God's people? Why or why not?
