  1. Who and what were Judah and Jerusalem putting their dependence on? (vs. 1-2)
  2. How is human inadequacy being revealed in this chapter?
  3. How are the people specifically being hostile toward God? How do you see this kind of hostility in the world today? Where do you see a need for God's intervention?
  4. How do verses 2-3 parallel with verses 18-23? What do they have in common?
  5. What does verse 9 mean? It says that they “proclaim their sin like Sodom” (ESV). Why is this comparison made?
  6. Why is God bringing His people to the point of desperation? How will this bring about redemption? Has God ever redeemed you by first taking something away from you?
  7. How does knowing Israel's guilt affect the way you see God's restoration of His chosen people?
  8. We see God stripping His people of all worldly things on which they are dependent. Is there anything in your life that you feel you are more dependent on than God? What makes it hard to put God above all worldly things? What would help and encourage you?
