Discussion Questions for Hosea, Chapter 14
- Revisit Hosea 6:1-3. What blessings can you expect when you repent from sin? Have you experienced these blessings before? What was the best part of repentance? What was the worst part?
- The words "the LORD your God" have a special kind of weight to them when living in a state of repentance. Is the LORD your God "your" God? How do you know?
- Verses 2 and 3 give a model prayer for repentance. If you were repeating this to God, what words would you replace to make it applicable to your own life? Assyria, for example, is probably not what you're struggling with today.
- Apostasy (verse 4, CSB) is a choice to abandon God's fold. So why does the Lord say that it is something that needs to be healed?
- Why does the Lord say that He will "freely love them" (verse 4, CSB)? Didn't the Lord already love them? Why do you think the Lord makes this emphasis?
- Lebanon is mentioned three times in verses 5 to 7, but nowhere else in the whole book. Why do you think that is?
- Verse 4-8 has a lot of plant imagery. Why? What is being alluded to?
- After restoring Israel, God doesn't even want to continue talking about idols. What idols is God tired of bringing up in your life?
- Israel certainly stumbled over God's wisdom. What does it look like to walk in righteousness? How can you walk in righteousness this week?
- Has the promise of restoration depicted in chapter 14 happened yet? Do you see it in your life? How has this restoration affected your life?
