Discussion Questions for Galatians, Chapter 2

  1. Why was Paul afraid that he might have been running in vain? What does running in vain look like?
  2. Why did some people consider circumcision a part of salvation? Is baptism the "modern-day" circumcision? Is baptism necessary for salvation? Why or why not?
  3. Paul and his companions did not give up preaching the truth. Why should we continue to preach the truth as well? How does Paul's victory in this matter give you hope as a believer?
  4. The Lord was still working in Peter and Paul's lives, even after years of sanctification and service to Him. How is God in work in you? How have you grown in your walk with Christ?
  5. Read Matthew 17:1-13. Why do you think Paul calls these individuals "Pillars" (verse 9, CSB)? Why do you think Jesus chose these men as the pillars of our faith?
  6. Peter, James, and John had a different mission field than Paul and his companions. Was this the right way to minister to these people? How might they have changed their message while still maintaining the essential truths about the Gospel?
  7. What was Paul's issue with Peter's behavior? Even though he had literally walked with Jesus, Peter stumbled in sin at this time. How does this encourage you, knowing that the literal first believer in Christ still dealt with sin?
  8. What does living like a Gentile look like? What does living like a Jew look like? What should our lives look like?
  9. Paul publicly rebuked Peter concerning his sin. When is is right to publicly rebuke a fellow believer? How should you navigate this if it ever comes up?
  10. Why is it so important that we are saved by faith and not by our works? What role do works have in our faith? What does it mean to be Crucified with Christ (verse 20, CSB)?
