  1. Why do you think this statement occurs before the list of commands? Why is it important to see salvation as the motivation for obedience?
  2. What has God done in your own life that would motivate you to obey him?
  3. Is jealousy something you normally associate with God? What would make this true of God and what actions would this attribute lead to?
  4. How might you explain God's jealousy to someone who finds this idea uncomfortable? Is God's jealousy similar to or different from human jealousy?
  5. What is the difference is God's punishing and God's graciousness in verses 5-6? What would it look like for us to have these qualities in our own lives?
  6. Who is mentioned in verse 10 as part of the reason for the Sabbath? Based on this, what is the moral obligation of employers today?
  7. Why is the people's fear mentioned in verse 18 and how does this relate to the importance of obedience to the commands? Is fear of God something you think of regularly? Why or why not?
