  1. One chapter ago, David brought his two wives to Hebron, but now in chapter 3 he has 6 wives. Is this the ideal that the Lord has for marriage? Why or why not? Where did these other wives come from? Why was this seen as acceptable in these times, but now is totally unacceptable?
  2. Compare the differences between David's household and Ish-bosheth's household in this chapter. In what ways does the Lord confirm David's annointing in this chapter? How does the Lord tear down Ish-bosheth's household? Why do you think the Lord uses discord and disunity for His purposes? How has he done that in your life?
  3. Discuss the alliance between Abner and David in verses 6-21. What are the political motivations behind this alliance? How does it affect the power dynamics in Israel long-term?
  4. Why do you think Ish-Bosheth would accuse Abner of sleeping weith his father's concubine? With Abner's response, do you think he did it? Why or why not?
