  1. According to the start of this chapter, when did David pray this song? Can you think of a time in your life when you may have felt similarly to David in this moment? Did you react in prayer and praise as he did? Why or why not?
  2. Read through this song of deliverance and list out all of the attributes which David praises God for. Which of these mean the most to you, and why? Which have you experienced in your own life, and which do you wish you experienced more often? Why?
  3. According to this song, what happened when David cried to the Lord for help? Is this any different to how God responds to believers' cries for help today? Why or why not?
  4. Read verse 5-6. Have you ever felt this way, dejected and defeated? How did God comfort you in those times, and how did he deliver you from them?
  5. Consider the imagery in verses 8-16. How does it compare with your own understanding of God's power and might? Is your view of God less or greater than this? Why do you think so?
  6. According to verse 20, why did the Lord rescue David? Do you believe that God feels the same about you? How might this affect the way you pray to and seek after him?
  7. Read verse 21. It is obvious throughout this book and others that David did not live a sinless life. How, then, was he able to claim himself as "righteous" and "clean"? Was he right to do so? Why or why not?
  8. Do you believe that God's "way is perfect" and "the word of the LORD proves true" (v.31, ESV)? If you do believe this, do you live as if it is true? In what ways have you succeeded, and in what ways have you failed? How is God gracious to us even when we fail?
