Chapter Summary

Reign of Joash over Judah and his death. Repair of the temple.

Why is it important that we surround ourselves with people of deep and abiding faith? Should we distance ourselves from those who are not following God wholeheartedly? Why or why not? As Christians, how should we balance our relationships with other Christians and those who are not walking in obedience to biblical instruction?
What is the correlation between Jehoash’s behavior in the later years of his life and the instruction he received through his formative years?
Why do you think the people built shrines on high places?
What would prompt a person to bring a monetary donation into the house of the Lord?
Why would Jehoash entrust the maintenance of the temple to the priests?
Why do you think the priests neglected to maintain the temple?
What made this change in financial and physical policy go smoothly?
Was it fiscally responsible for the priest and secretary to dole out money without asking for an accounting of the money? What does this say about the character of the craftsmen?
Was it right for king Jehoash to pay Hazael off with these items that had been dedicated to the Lord? Why or why not? What does this tell us about the king's faith and perspective toward these items dedicated to the Lord? Do you think the Lord would have protected His people if Jehoash had trusted Him wholeheartedly?
Why would God allow a king who had been faithful to Him to be assassinated in a treasonous conspiracy? Why does God allow His people to be mistreated and murdered today?
