  1. Who does Paul urge us to pray for? What kind of prayers does Paul urge? Why does he emphasize prayer?
  2. What role does prayer play in successfully and daily living out the Gospel?
  3. What are some of the tangible results that Paul says mark a God-pleasing life? Why does God desire these things in his church?
  4. Paul’s stand against false teachers and their “knowledge” comes out several times in this chapter. What evidence does he give to show that he has the authority he claims to oppose them? (See v. 7 and compare with Ch. 1:1, 16).
  5. In what ways does Paul show the centrality of the gospel in this chapter? How does he summarise it here (see vv. 5–6)? What parallels or examples do you see of the centrality of the gospel in your own life?
