- What was David's first action when he learned that the wives and children of him and his men had been captured? Would you have acted in a similar way or differently? Why?
- Read verse 6. What were the specific reasons why David was "distressed" (ESV)? Was he right to feel this way? Why or why not? Were the people who threatened him in the right? Why or why not?
- In the midst of his distress, how was David encouraged? What did he do, and what was the effect? Have you seen God work similarly in your own life? If yes, how?
- An ephod was a priestly garment used in those times to discern the will of God. How did David use it in this story? Do believers use similar means to discern the will of God today? How do we determine God's will in a situation?
